SULPHUR FUMES.
OTAHUHU RESIDENTS , PETITION.
A petition, to ; be presented to the Manukau County Council and signed by 230 ratepayers, came before the Otahuhu Borough Council for its official approval. The petitioners'stated that action should be taken to compel the Challenge Phoephate Coy., Ltd., to control the.sulphur fumes escaping • from their works, situated on the borough boundary. They contended the fumes •were injurious to health, particularly because there, were hundreds of children attending the school in. the affected .area, and also, that, the fiamee were damaging property and hindering, even destroying, vegetation. They did, not ask .that, the company be compelled to' cease manufacturing, ae 'they believed it possible to .prevent' the total escape of -the ; fumes.'. ; .; On the advice of the town clerk the council decided to send a covering letter to the Manukau County Council, asking it to give the petition its: serious consideration. . .
