(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 9. There was. a noisy crowd of. 2000 persons in Whitehall at ten o'clock last night. The unruly element consisted of agitators and leaders of the unemployed who demanded an interview Avith Mi'.- MacDoriald to protest against the reductions in the dole. The police finally made a baton charge. ■ . ■' A crowd of young Communists around the Cenotaph refused to disperse and hooted the, police until a charge by mounted men .cleared the streets. Nine arrests were made. The disorders in the vicinity of Parliament House throughout the evening were _ serious and 1000 foot police, in addition to mounted were required to cope with them. Whitehall was jammed with people, including the who .Were watching the illuminations. Many were knocked down and trampled upon during the charges by the mounted men. Police cars drove round Parliament Square to prevent the reassembly of-the demonstrators. Three persons were taken to hospital and 1-7 more were arrested. There was some disorder at Bristol this morning .when unemployed attempted to enter the Trade Union Congress, which had refused to receive a deputation. The police! restored order and no arrests were made.
