SHEEP ADVANCE, BEEF LOWER,

CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday.

A sharp advance in the values of fat slieep, which were in short supply, and an easing in beef values, which section was over-supplied, were features of the market at Addington to-day. Store Sheep—The entry was small, with a. fair percentage of better class sheep. The sale was keen, with values on a par with those of recent markets. Values were: Good sound-mouthed three-quarter-bred ewes, 13/9 to 14/3; good 2-tqoth halfbred ewes to 16/; medium 4-tooth halfbred ewes, to 15/; medium ewe hoggets, 12/10 to 13/10; ordinary wether hoggets, 8/ to 8/9. i l at Sheep.—There was an entry of 3500 head. Values advanced by 1/ to 1/6 a head for all classes. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 24/1;, prime heavy, 17/6 to 19/; medium, 14/ to 17/; light, 11/ to 13/6; extra prime heavy ewes, to 20/1; prime heavy, 17/ to 18/6; prime, 15/ to 16/6; medium, 11/ to 14/6; light, 9/ to 10/6. Fat Cattle.—There was an entry of 454 head, including 71 from the North Island. There was a general easing of £1 up to £1 10/ a head. The range of values was: Primest sorts, to 28/ per 1001b; mediumweight steer beef, 25/ to 27/; heav;-weight beef, 22/ to 25/; primest heifer beef, to 28/; best cow beef, to 23/; medium cow beef, 16/ to 19/; rough and unfinished sorts, down to 12/.

Fat Pigs.—The entry was large, but there was a weaker demand, particularly for porkers. Values were Choppers, £3 to £5 18/6; baconers, 50/ to 57/6; heavy, £3 3/6 to £3 13/6; average price per lb, od to 5%d; porkers, 34/ to 38/6; heavy porkers, 40/ to 47/6; average price per lb, 5%d to 7d.
