AUCKLAND AFFAIRS.
ANNUAL REPORT ISSUED
The annual report of the Auckland Cricket Association, just issued, indicates that the association last year had an excellent season all round. Financially the association was £153 down on its year's operations, but this was after paying out of current revenue such sums as £227 for coaching, £162 for expenses of team on tour to Dunedin, and £125 to New Zealand Cricket, Limited. In the Piunket Shield matches Auckland ran Canterbury close for possession of the trophy, and subsequently five Aucklanders gained places in the New Zealand team for England. Appreciation of Wensley's work as coach is expressed, though financial considerations have necessitated the decision to endeavour to continue coaching work for the next season through honorary local talent. The report sets out concisely the results of the various club competitions and Piunket Shield matches, the latter with scores, and touches on such aspects of management as grounds, junior management, and umpiring, with reference to notable losses of players and officials by death. Special appreciation is recorded of the services of Mr. J. H. Watts, who has served for a quarter of a century as honorary treasurer. Incidentally,. an appeal is made to ex-players to strengthen the umpiring side of the game in Auckland.
