W.C.TU. CONFERENCE.
The district convention „of the Women's Christian Temperance «Union began its business -'at - the Y.W.C.A. yesterday morning. Mrs. M. Richards presided over a large number of delegates, from unions throughout the district. . The report, of the executive committee, read; by Mrs: Johnston, recording secretary, gave evidence of much activity in the large field of work, and Mrs." G. Clark, corresponding secretary, reported that progress was being maintained. -Mrs. Taylor,, treasurer, stated that the balance-sheet showed a credit balance. About 80 officers and delegates '.attended' the convention, these representing 24. jsenior unions and five "Y" branches, which comprised the younger, members. After the luncheon adjournment, Mrs. W. J. Williams, of Christchurch, gave an inspiring address, and later, Mrs. T. E. Taylor, Dominion president, addressed' the gathering. The election of officers resulted as follows: District president, Mrs. Hugh Kasperj vice-president, Miss Reid; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Carr; recording secretary, Mrs. A. G. Johnston; treasurer, Mrs. W. Taylor. In the evening an entertainment was given by members of the Loyal Temperance League and the "Y" branches.
