Thompson presided. The lecturer for -the afternoon was Dr. Elaine Gurr, who spoke on pre-school children, children varying from two to five years of age. She'said that according to Socrates a good beginning was everything, and folthe wisdom of-that statement the early training, mentally, physically and morally, could not begin too socm. Even hereditary tendencies could be greatly modified by environment, and it was wonderful what good food', sunshine, rest'and happy bright surroundings could da for the child. Care of the teeth and proper breathing through the nose —not as so many chlidren did through the mouth —were of first importance. Dr. Gurr also gave a word of warning, especially to the visitors to beaches, not to expose the children to too much sunshine. Eight hours on.the beach in a broiling sun, was too much for them and should be varied by some hours in the shade. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Thompson.
