DAY IN PARLIAMENT.
VOTING BILL REJECTED
TRANSPORT LEGISLATION" TO-DAY.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", Wednesday. The House of Representatives devoted this evening to private members' bills. Mr. H. G. R. Mason's Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill suffered defeat by 38 votes to 24 on its short title. It sought to provide alternative methods of marking voting papers. The same member's Rating Amendment Bill was under discussion when the adjournment time arrived. The Prime Minister secured an adjournment till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, with the object of giving the Inter-party Committee an opportunity of sitting tomorrow evening, as the House will adjourn at 5.30 p.m. He said the Transport Bill would be discussed on the second reading stage, and the Minister would have an opportunity of explaining it, though he thought it unlikely that such an important bill would pass that stage at an afternoon's sitting. Replying to a question, Sir. Forbes added that he would move on Thursday that the iHouse adjourn till the following Wednesday evening, to give the Inter-party Committee full opportunity to deliberate.
