FRANKLIN A. AND P. SOCIETY.
The president, Mr. R. C. Clark, presided at the regular meeting of the executive of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society when preliminary arrangements were made in connection with the next autumn show. The winner of the Massey Memorial Gold Cup is, in future, to defray the cost of insuring this 100-guinea trophy. The Latimer Memorial Cup is to be allotted as a points prize for the Pedigree Milking Shorthorn section, and the Lovell and Christmas Challenge Cup as a prize for the exhibition gaining most points in pedigree dairy and special dairy classes. A new system of judging the champion dairy cow is to be tried. In the past an appointed judge made the awards, but they did not always give satisfaction. In future the judges of the recognised dairy breeds are to place all exhibits, the steward in charge to compute the points, the cow with the lowest number to be declared the winner. The champion dairy bull class is to be eliminated. Arrangements are being made for lectures on various phases of farming, with the object of furthering the educational side of the society's activities.
