REQUEST FOR TENNIS COURTS
A_ petition from 25 enthusiasts asking that tennis courts be formed in Grey Lynn Park was recently presented to the council, and referred to the Works '2TS /* The latter ' after perusnig l?Z^l% om , e cil 7 en P"eer and ISS5*?v5r 6f parks ' re p°° ted to the council that the area suggested was between Grosvenor and Dickens Streets, and was formed by filling in the gully. It ym S , not suitable for grass courts, and. as the area was subject to occasional v"?f' the maintenance costs of asphalt courts, would probably be considerable. ' The .estimated: cost. of forming and tencmg. three courta was £345, and for * r thr ® e • an additional £325 wou«\ b© required, these costs being exclusive of any provision for dressing sheds or pavilion. It was decided to reply that at present an area at Surrey Crescent was being excavated sufiiciently large for nine courts, and was only 70 chains I distant,, or less than 15-miautes' -walk apta Grosrenor Street. ~ T"
