ABATTOIR CHARGES.
REDUCTION REQUESTED
COUNCIL TO CONSIDER.
A request for a reduction in charges made both for the use of, and slaughte.ing at, the municipal abattoir, was received by the City Council last, evening from the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Master Butchers' Union of Employers. It was pointed out that as the ten per cent reduction in wages was now operating there should be a corresponding decrease in the charges ruling at the abattoir, pending finality in tnc existing dispute between the Slaughteimen's Uni<§h and the council in regard to their existing award. Reporting on the request the manager of the abattoir pointed out that ths existing award governing * rates of nay for abattoir Avork was about to expire and a new award was under consideiation. The employees were asking substantial increases in the rates for sections of piece workers, and he therefore recommended that the request ox the Master Butchers'' Union be considered after the new award had be«n made. This course was adopted.
