FINANCE INQUIRY.
EVIDENCE FROjVI EXPERTS. INVITATIONS BEING ISSUED. ESTIMATES LIKELY TO STAND. , (By Telegraph."— Parliamentary Reporter.', v WELLINGTON, Tuesday Official information regarding the inter-Party Committee is confined to a statement that Mr. A. D. Park, Secretary to the Treasury, has given evidence. To-day the committee sat. in the morning, and again in the afternoon, immediately the House had adjourned. Members of the committee expect to be involved in a painstaking examination of the national accounts, as a preliminary to making further suggestions for "shortening sail." It is considered likely that the Budget estimates will be fairly well justified. In fact, the concern of all parties is not so much the conditions of tho current financial year, though the
taxation • proposals in tins respect are important. The greater concern is planning for the future. If the major portion of the Consolidated Fund reserves have been appropriated to lighten the current year's taxation, arid the depression continues another year, the strain j on the national accounts will _ be at breaking point unless the position has been intelligently anticipated. This is what the committee is intended to accom plish,
The committee has already decided to invite the co-operation of leading bankers and those concerned in the farmers' finance. Invitations are being issued to them to give evidpnee, and to discuss national and farmers' finance with the committee. Later there will be a further call for outside advice and assistance in the way of evidence.
