PAPAKURA COLLISION.
TWO DRIVERS BEFORE COURT.
TABANAKI LADY FINED. SECOND CHARGE DISMISSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAPAKURA, this day. A collision at the corner of Great South Road and Beach Road, Papakura, on May 10, when a small saloon car driven by Mr. 11. E. Wilson, of Taupiri, collided with a small touring car driven by Elsie May Bredin, of Taranaki, had a sequel in the Papakura Police Court this morning, when Miss Bredin pleaded guilty, through her counsel (Mr. G. F. McDonald) to cutting tho corner into Beach Road. Mr. McDonald said his client was emphatic in stating that she gave the required signal when she was about to turn. A lino of £2, and costs 12/, was imp.osed.
H. E. Wilson was charged/with dangerous driving. In a statement to Conetablo McGruer, of Ngaruawahia, which was produced, ho said he was driving to Auckland from Taupiri. His speed approaching the Beach. Road intersection was about 30 aniles an hour. Miss Brcdin's car was coming from Auckland and he was half-way across the intersection when it suddenly swerved in front of him to turn into Beach Road.
It was then only about Oft away, the statement set forth, and he had no chance of avoiding a collision. The other car could have gone behind him by waiting a little. He and his mother and sister, who were with him in the car, were rendered unconscious. He was in hospital for 12 days and Ms motherland sister for lesser periods. ( Tho charge was dismissed. CHBISTCHURCH CLAIM. ■ELDERLY MAN KNOCKED DOWN.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, tliis day. Gordon Melton Gunn, dentist, of Ghristchurch, was to-day defendant in a claim for damages totalling £803 in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Adams and a jury.
The claim arose out of an accident that occurred on the Papanui Road on Sunday, February 22, when John Priast, aged 77 years, was knocked down and injured. Priest, who is a retired farmer, was plaintiff in the claim. Negligence was denied. The hearing is proceeding.
