OLD FEUDS.

IRELAND'S ANXIETY.

Ulster Concern at Disorders on

Free State Border.

RIOTS IN ARMAGH.

(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

(Received 1.30 p.m.)

BELFAST, August 17.

The disorders on the Free State border are causing anxiety. The Ulster Government is resolved to stamp out lawlessness and also to prevent a recrudescence of the old feuds between the Orangemen and Catholics in Belfast, where the restless tendencies manifest in the lower elements in some districts, and the prevalent unemployment add to the danger of night attacks in ■which young hooligans smash and loot shop windows.

Mobs at Portadown, County Armagh, smashed windows and looted shops late last night, and attempted to batter down the gates of a convent. Lorry loads of police were rushed from Belfast, and special constables were moßilised.

The telephone wires were cut, and trees felled and spread over the roads to prevent the Hibernians from reaching Armagh, where the police charged with their batons and quelled the disturbances. A crowd at Lisburn set fire to a shop and damaged a convent.
