[ RESULT OF FORTNIGHTLY SHORT STORY COMPETITION. | J. i 11
— — m "Mahala's Voyaging," a short, well-told tale by Beatrice Bridges, 207, Remuera Road, age 15, captured first place in this week's short story competition. There was an extra large number of entries, but the general standard was not high. Commended stories came from W. N. Hewitt, Alma Wyan, lan Grant, Heather Graham, Enid Watkin, Muriel Yeates and Rose Stuart. "Night," by Dudley Cole, was a fair piecc of work, but not sufficiently well handled to be suitable for publication. Ernest Ramsbottom's very long story, "Plot and Cou~;«r Plot," was spoiled chiefly by its ending, and "The Princess' Party," although containing good ideas, 'was not well worked out.
