GOLD DAY FOR SYDNEY. LEAVES ON FRIDAY. On Friday next Messrs. D. Jackson and J. F. Eva, owner and trainer respectively of the Day Comet—Poi gelding Gold Day, leave Auckland by the Ulimaroa for Sydney. The intention is to spend a holiday in Australia, but Gold Day will be raced at some of the suburban meetings. He is in nice trim, but may require at least a few sharpening up gallops. TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB. The Takapuna Jockey Club will hold its annual meeting on August 17, aud nominations for three seats on the committee close at noon on Saturday next with the secretary, Mr. F. D. McVay. A GISBORNE PROSPECT. When Princess Elizabeth won the Hawke's Bay Hurdle Race a couple of weeks ago she registered her best performance to date, and a repetition of that form should find her in the money in the Park Hurdles at Gisborne. This mare has been steadily improving during the past few months and should do -well on the Gisborne trip, where the class is not over strong. FELT THE EFFECTS. Royal Mint only commenced hurdle racing at the Wellington winter meeting, running second in each effort on the first and second day. On Saturday he was in in the picture for a good portion of the distance, but stopped badly over the last three furlongs and finished outside a place. Probably the two hard races he had had previously laft their effects, but by the time the Grand National comes along he should again be at his best, and the experience he had at Trentham will serve him in good stead. This horse can handle heavy going well and he should take no end of heading off the next time he starts, for he Has plenty of pace and jumps •quickly and. ivell.
