WEEK-END PRICES IN SHOPS. EGGS DOWN AGAIN. BIG SUPPLIES OF FRUIT. Once again the price of eggs has declined, the quotation to-day being 1/7 per dozen, which is an unusually low figure for this time of the year. The comparative mildness of the weather this winter is shown by the fact that in the middle of July a few mushrooms are to be seen in fruiterers' windows. Catches of fish by trawler* nave been small since last report, but seine .fishermen secured good supplies. Mold and kingfisli are 2d per lb cheaper this week. Whitebait is selling at 6d per glass. Butter, cheese, bacon and hams are all unchanged in price this week. Supplies of fruit are fairly heavy for this time of the year, oranges and mandarins being lower in price than usual in July. Mandarins are offered at from 10 up to 18 for 1/, according to size, and Island oranges can be got at 9 to 12 for 1/. Local marmalade oranges are marked Sd per dozen, and lemons can be got at 8 for New season's fruit from California dropped in price this week, apricots being marked 8d per lb, and plums from 6d to lOd per lb, according to variety. Bananas are in good supply, and sell at.from 3d to 4d per lb. Pines are marked from 9d to 1/3 each, according to size. Gnavas can be got now at 6d per lb, but for Cape gooseberries lOd is asked. Apples on the average sell at 4d per lb for best desert varieties. Pigeonettes are now on the market at that price, which is also asked for Delicious and Stunners.
