INTOXICATED IN CAR.
MAN LOSES LICENSE. £> CONSTABLE'S INTERVENTION.
Arrested in Ivarangahape Road early, on Saturday evening on a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in his motor car, Frederick Tierney., aged 45, a butcher, admitted the offence when he came before the Police Court this morning. Mr. Allan Moody represented Tierney. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said Tierney was seen by a constable as he left a hotel about 6 p.m. on Saturday. Tierney had four 'bottles of beer in a parcel, and walked from the hotel to a motor car. He sat at the wheel and started the engine. Constable Prestage then accosted him, and, after switching off the engine, took Tierney to the lock-up. Tierney had not taken any liquor for a considerable period. He had never becyi in trouble previously. Counsel stated that accused was not addicted to drink,- but on Saturday he had three drinks. He had not. driven the car, and there was little traffic about at the time.
■ The magistrate imposed a fine of £10 and. cancelled Tierney's license for three months.
