RANGITOTO ISLAND.
Appreciating always your many instructive articles. I was particularly struck by that on the charm of Rangitoto. Since the report of the visit of the Rangitoto Domain Board I have made a visit to the island and satisfied myself as to the extremely wonderful workthat has been carried out by prison labour. Just ponder over its construction: When the workers commenced duty the -whole route of the road comprised hillocks of .scoria, belched bv the influence of a great volcanic upheaval. All this had to be blasted, broken and placed piece bv piece until the whole work was completed and without the assistance of laboursavin."' devices. The work not only reflects the hfghest credit upon the engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths, but upon those responsible for the completion of the work.' The work is one that must attract the attention of engineers from the world over. A VISITOR.
