ADDINGTON JOTTINGS.
GRAND LIGHT SHINING. COLONIAIi . BOY IMPROVING^ EL DIRECT AND LILY HAROLB WELL.' • ■'},' ""|| (By ■ to "Star.") , ' ■ ■ ■ CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday.' There has been a decided improvement in the .weather' during the last few days and the tracks at Addington are improving. /This; will; please the trainers who have young horses in preparation for thespring, but-there will not be much.work of'interest for a feiy weeks. C. , Cowsill has Our Geoi-Re looking'in fine order; in fact, the English,, pacer is better than at any period since his arrival here. He is not, however/ doing m uc h fast-work at pi'esent. - ' : . . .■ . A ! two-year-old by Real Guy from the speedy'Pearlie-Chimee is in work, at Addinpton. The'• youngster is being ■ trained, by W. J. Tomkinson, who raced hie dam? with success. Native Prince looks as though he -will be back to his best form by August. He is a very fine free-legged pacer, who does most of hie training work Avithout hopples. . Grand Light, who is now in J. J. nerley's stable, is doing steady work at Addington, and he is in excellent order.. Stanley ■ T. looks a good deal heavier than when he raced earlier in the season, aiid it may take borne racing to bring him back to- hie best form. Belinda is doing steady work at Addington, and this improving two-miler should gain further distinction dn the new season. She is etilL somewhat slow away from the barrier. Colonial Boy should show further improvement in the new season, as he is in fine order to race. He is seen at his best over a two-mile journey.
Delightful, .who is a particularly smart beginner in a race, is being kept in steady work. ' The • Happy ■ Voyage gelding is ; a brilliant niile and a quarter performer, arid .he .may, with age, put up a high-grade effort over two miles. . Although Surprise , Journey, t was' reported:to be a non-stayer when he came from Australia, W. J. Tomkinson did not seem to experience any. difficulty in getting him to go two miles. The Australianbred trotter has had an easy time o£ late, and he is now in slow work again. He looks: bright and well, aud he, should be in his best form next month". ' . , A. G; Wilson has both El Direct and Lily Harold in fine order for the new season's .racing. Lily Harold took 'some, time to build up after coming to New Brighton, ■but : 'she showed great improvement at the ltuSt meeting of the Ashburton Trotting Club, when she beat a strong field in the Acton Handicap. Now that, she has re-gained-her form she may be raced over two miles. The Taranaki-owned El Direct is a useful- pacer, but he may race test in'sprint events. - ■ '■ '. . ■ '' sFree Advice put on a lot of condition during her spell,, and. she may require a race, or-two before, she is - again in her best form.' She k a fine stayer,, and she looks capable of further improvement. ■' The' four-yearrold pacer Peter. Locanda, ■by Brent Loeanda from Reta : Peter, is- at present having a spell. He showed a good 'deal of speed in the Trial Handicap at the laet meeting of the Ashburton : Trotting Club, 'but did not see out the final quarter of. a jnile. He looks like making a useful pacer for Nelson Price. ■" ';• Trimmer is now trained at New Brighton. He looks in good order, but he is too -unreliable in his races to be supported with confidence. He is not likely to : show , ;much : more improvement, and with so many you'rig-atid improving pacers now in commission, it will be , hard to place Kim in" a' race where, hie chance of success 1 will look good. • . „,. :G. Fv Robinson's;-young -trotter .Tiny Grey,-'by Guy Parrish : frora Tiny Moon, is improving.' slowly,' and as he appears to be growing .yet, he' is not being-hur-ried' in has' training. • " ■' ' \ Nelson Price is working the speedy, but erratic pacer Ariki. Price has a habit, ot getting rough-gaited. and unreliable .paceis to go well for him, and Ariki will try him out in' this respect." ' ■''/;' ' .'"
