WHY PEOPLE SNORE.
The noise of snoring results from the vibration of the soft palate the fleshy and hindmost part of the roof of the mouth from which the uvula hangs. The to-aml-fro movement of the soft palate is made easy during sleep by the muscular relaxation of the parts. The mouth is generally open, though it is ( juito possible to snore with it closed. Obstruction (partial or complete) in the nose or in the nasai passages is the usual cause of snoring. Among the many conditions which give rise to it are polyps (small fibrous excrescences inside the nose), chronic nasal catarrh, and adenoids. The habit of snoring occasionally persists after the removal of the cause, particularly if the obstruction has been of long standing. Child sufferers should therefore be carefully examined, and any defects remedied at an early date.
