RAILWAYS REVENUE.
1 INCREASE IN EARNINGS. SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT SHOWN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,); WELLINGTON, this day. The Railway Department's working account for the four weeks ended May 23 ehows a slight increase in net cannings. The excess of revenue was £84,474, or £1340 more than that for the corresponding period last year. The gross revenue was £550,424, which is £101,000 less than last year, while expenses totalled £471,950, or £102,400 less. Net revenue from the North Island railways declined by £5873 to £24,977, Revenue at £272.581 showed a decline of £57,000, but expenses were reduced by only £51,000 to £247,004. There was an \ improvement of £5849 in the operating results of the South Island railways. Trie revenue, £228,439, showed a decline of £40,000 while the expenses, £191,230, were lower by £45,750. Net revenue from miscellaneous services increased by £1304 to £22,294. For the eight weeks of the current' financial year, the net revenue has been £179,220, as against £205,404 last year.
