DEFEAT OF MISS MUDFORD. (Britisb Official Wireless.) * (Received 12 noon.) RUGBY, June 20. Good progress was made in both the men's and women's doubles matches at the Wimbledon lawn tennis championships yesterday, but few singles were played. i The only seeded player to be defeated was Miss Mudford (Britain), who was beaten by Miss Joan Ridley (Britain), 10—8, I—6, G—4. In the fourth round of the men's singles, G. P. Hughes (Britain) beat Nigel Sharpe, 6—2, C—4, C—3; Van Ryn (U.S.A.) beat Boussus (France), 6—2, I—6, 6—2, 6—l. Players who qualified in the fifth round include Perry (Britain) and Wood and Shields (U.S.A.)
