THE PASSING SHOW.
(By THE MAN ABOUT TOWN.) It is almost impossible to prevent admirals and generals from writing book 6 about tlie war nowadays, and, of course, the older the grizzled warWRITING ITCH, riors grow the more they grizzle. Even General Pershing, the famous personage who commanded in chief the American armies in France during the World War, has written a book in which he blames the British and French troops for being worn out when his own fresh troops arrived, this having a bad effect on their 'utility. Of course, British people have been pointing out that it wasn't Uncle Sam who busted up the Hindenburg line, but merely the. poor old worn out John et Jean. There isn't going to be a real wordy warfare about the Pershing book, mainly because most people think Pershing is a very decent gentleman and a good soldier. It is pathetic to recall that in 1915 while the general was travelling on a train taking him on his official duties he received a telegram to say that his wife and three of his four children had been burnt to death in a hotel fire.
