CONSTABLE BUYS LIQUOR. "It seems to run in the family," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, in fining Eunice Buckley £25, or in default one month's imprisonment, on a charge of selling sly grog. Defendant, who was represented by ' Mr. Schramm, pleaded not guilty. I Constable Worts said that on the evening of May 17 he went to shop in Hobson Street for the purpose of purchasing liquor. In a room at the back of the shop were five men and four women, besides Buckley. Witness bought eight bottles of beer. Six of the liad been consumed on the premises, and* he took two away with him. He paid 1/ each for the bottles. Sergeant Brenchley said that, in company with three others, he searched the premises on May 23, and seized a quantity of liquor. Defendant had denied that Constable Worts had been to her place, stating, " It's a put up job." Sergeant Burnett gave cozToborative evidence. Eunice Buckley denied that Constable Worts had been in her shop on the evening in question. She knew the constable. She had not bought any liquor for the place, and that found by the police had been left by. her husband. She asserted that Constable Worts had made a mistake, Mr. Hunt: What! And committed perjury and produced a bottle of beer, too. The magistrate aoked Buckley how many times she had been convicted on a "Never sellin S- Shc replied: Mr. Kelly: Don't tell lies. You were here once before. Mns. Buckley: Mr. Hunt then told me to get out of Court.
