AT THE MARTS.

ORANGES SELL WELL

MARKET LITTLE CHANGED.

OVERSEAS FRUIT CARGOES.

The prevalence of winter colds has increased the demand for lemons and oranges, and for these there has been a better sale during the past week, with recent values maintained. The shipment of Sydney fruit by the Ulimaroa this week sold as follows: Navel oranges, 6/ to 11/ case; pines, 10/ to 14/; mandarines, 7/ to 10/. The Niagara, which is due on Monday, will bring further supplies of the same fruit from the Commonwealth. As the Waipahi will miss a trip to the Cook Islands, and will not be back for seven weeks, Cook Island oranges may be short before that time has elapsed. Many growers have planted tomatoes for autumn sale, and for this reason outdoor supplies have been available for a longer period than usual. Prices are low. Generally speaking the tone of the market is dull, and quotations have changed little from last week. Prices are:—Apples: Delicious, 4/ to 6/ case; Munroes, 3/ to 5/; Ba'ilarats, 5/ to 6/6; Jonathans, 5/6 to 6/6; Grannie Smith, 0/ to 7/6; Stunners, 5/6 to 7/3; 3/ to 5/; Dougherty, 4/ to 5/. Pears: Coles and Nellis, large, 8/6 to 9/G; small, 6/ to 7/; P. Barrys. 6/ to 8/. Tree tomatoes: 3/ to 5/6; black, 5/ to 8/. Lemons: 5/ to 9/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 3d to 6d per lb; outdoor, 2/ to 6/ ease. Passions: 2/ to 4/6. Grapes: Colman, lid to 1/6 lb; Sydney white, 16/ to IS/ case. Guayas: 3/ to 4/6 case. Cape gooseberries: 5d to 6d lb. Oranges: Island, according to count, 11/ to 15/ case; Australian Navels, 8/ to 11/. Bananas: No. I, 27/6; medium and scconds, 14/ to 18/. Ghakune Stocks Finished. Local kumaras are almost finished, and stocks are being drawn almost exclusively from Helensville and Tauranga. The Auckland market is now almost self-supporting, and very few \ vegetables are coming in from outside. Up to the present dealers have depended for their cauliflower and cabbage stocks from Ohakune, but now local greens are sufficient to meet all demands. A few Brussels sprouts are still sent in from Ohakune. Lettuce'is in poor quality and dear. It is difficult to obtain good quality at this time of the year. A further shipment of Melbourne onions is expected in about a fortnight. Market prices are:—Potatoes: Southern, 9/ to 10/0 sack; local, 3/ to 4/ bag. Onions: Melbourne, 10/ cwt; local, 12/ cwt. Kumaras: Local, 5/ to 7/6 bag; Tauranga, 12/6 to 14/ cwt. Cabbage: 2/ to 8/ sack. Cauliflower: 2/ to 8/ sack. Swedes: 1/ to 2/ bag; pumpkins: 4/ to 10/ cwt. Citron melons: 7/ to 10/ cwt. Beans: 8d to 1/2 lb. Lettuce: 3/ to 7/6 case. Cucumbers: Hothouse, 4/ to 7/ dozen. Vegetable marrows: 3/ to 4/ dozen. Cabbage: Loose, 1/ to 3/6 dozen. Cauliflower: Loose, 2/ to 6/ dozen.
