ASSISTANCE . FOR RATEPAYERS. . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HASTINGS, this day. r The. Hastings Borough Council has announc&F a reduction of the borough rates from 6.32 d in the £ to od, representing a total of £SOOO. The general rate was lowered from 2Jd to lfd. ; The Mayor,-' Mr. • G. : F. -Roach, says .the- reduction is not an indication of lower rates for more than the current year, but only a measure of 'practical assistance for ratepayers, many of whom sustained financial loss in the earthquake. Salaries of the borough staff of £500 and above were reduced 10 per cent, and others 5-per cent, representing a total saving .of .^IO,OOO.
