Bill to Promote Sweepstakes Rejected. SENATE ACTION. (Received 12.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, June 18. The proposal that Canada should follow the Irish Free State in hospital sweepstakes was killed in the Senate when the bill by Senator Barnard, British Columbia, sponsoring a national hospitals drawing, was shelved for six months by a vote of 34 to 22.
