W. RAYNER'S TEAM.
, PROMISING YOUNGSTERS. PROGRAMME, MAY CONTEST WINTER CUP. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") WANGANUI, Thursday. Mr. L. G. Paul, who lias Arisus in work again, should win some money with the son of Thespian —Pennon next season. Arisus has scored five wins this season, and his most recent performances showed that he was improving with every race. He should furnish into a good four-year-old. TT , , A. J. Burchcll intends taking Valma to Napier for the Park meeting. She will be a runner in the five-furlong hack race the first day and in the hack hurdles on the second day. On Tuesday the Warplane mare ran half a mile in 53s on a dead track and was doing it easily. The coming three-year-old gelding All Humbug (Humbug—All Cerise) ran the last two furlongs with Valma, and the way he was hitting out at the finish suggests that he is going to prove a epeedy customer. . . , , Mr. B. T. Bennett is giving Kowhatu and Auctioneer a lot of work on the sandhills, and they both look in good shape. It is intended to race this pair at Trentham. They will be schooled over the bi" fences and battens respectively next week, probably by H. Duheu. Auctioneer surprised by beating all but Mountain Heath in his first race over hurdles, and on that showing the Gasbag gelding should make good at the hurdling game. W. H. Dwyer gave Knollmere a run over five furlongs on Tuesday. The Grandcourt gelding, with his shoes off and a light boy up, ran the first quarter under 245, three furlongs in 365, and the full distance in 1.4. Knollmere will race at Trentham next month if the track ie not too soft for him, fcnd he will an all probability be taken to Riccarton for the ; Winter Cup. This is a race which should, suit this gelding, and if he starts he will carry the confidence of many Wanganui track watchers in the big mile race. W. Rayner is pleased with the way his youngsters are shaping, especially Midinette, the filly by Limond—Motley. She was given a run over three furlongs m company with Impetuous on Tuesday, and they covered the distance in 39£s without being asked to do their best. Genesta (by Thespian—Damaris) and Linoleum (Limond—lnlaid), two other of Mr. G. M. Currie'e youngsters, are not so forward as Midinette, but they are coming along nicely. Rayner will have nothing to race until the Wanganui spring meeting, when Impetuous, Pomp and Pedestal will probably be eeen out, together with one or two of the youngsters. J. Barry is going to the Napier Park meeting to ride Valma and I'm Alone in their engagements. # Flying Swift has gone amiss, and it is understood he will not race again. It is gratifying to know that the entries received for the 1932 classic events by the Wanganui Jockey Club are well up to the average. For the Jackson Stakes 80 have been nominated, and for the Wanganui Guineas 36.
