RAILWAYMAN FAREWELLED.

> GIFT TO MR. McNAUGHTON. After 40 years' service in the employ of the Railway Department, Mr. H. McNaughton, workshop foreman blacksmith, is about to retire. Feeling reference to the high esteem in which Mr. McNaughton is held by those with whom he has come in contact was made at the Otahuhu workshops on Thursday when he was farewelled by the men of the blacksmith shop. In presenting Mr. McNaughton with an electric wireless set Mr. A. D. F. Sampson, works manager, eulogised his sterling qualities and his excellent work, and complimented him'on the high state of efficiency maintained in his shop. He also said Mr. McNaughton had always been held in the highest esteem by his fellow officers and all the members of the blacksmith shop. This warm tribute paid to Mr. McNaughton's popularity was wholeheartedly endorsed by Messrs. A. E. P Walworth, works manager (Hutt shops), J. Worthington, schedule officer, antKM J. Turnbull, workshops foreman, each of whom wished Mr. McNaughton a Jong and happy retirement. Mr. McNaughton said he thoroughly appreciated the generous sentiments that had been expressed and also the thoughtful gift which he would always cherish. He expressed the hope that he would frequently come in contact with his Iriends in the future.
