MOSLEMS AND JEWS BREED PIGS.

The latest Soviet victory over "superstitious prejudices," according to the Moscow Press, is the decision of the Moslem collective farm "Alcael," in Kazakstan, to breed pigs. With the Jews, the Moslems share and have always observed the strictest religious prohibition against pigs, condemned as unclean and defiling. It has remained for this Soviet Moslem community _to break through the tradition of centuries, by agreeing to breed and handle the outlawed swine. This step is said to have caused great excitement in the neighbouring Moslem villages, encouraged to follow suit by the tempting knowledge that pig-raising is one of the most profitable sidelines of Russian farms. Profit on the 12,000,000 odd pig-popula-tion of Russia has so far been forbidden fruit to the Jews and Moslems. While pig-breeding is still a revolutionary innovation amongst the Moslems, the Jewish Communist Press and leaders have for some time been urging the Jewish agricultural colonies to breed pigs, not only as food, but to confirm and proclaim their participation in the campaign against "superstitious prejudices."
