Y.W.C.A. The Y.W.C.A. board's monthly meeting, presided over by Mrs. A. D. Campbell, was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs. D. S. Peak was welcomed as a new member, and the resignation received of Mrs. A. Peak from the board, of Miss Quayle from the immigration committee, and of Miss D. Andrews from the holiday house committee. It was decided that Dr. Staley, whose approaching departure from New Zealand was reported,_ be written to, expressing the association's thanks for her services to it in many directions. The forthcoming annual meeting in August was arranged for, and the nomination of Mrs. A.. D. Campbell to the position of president of the association approved. Mrs. Charles Smith was elected a life member of the association, different directors speaking in appreciation of her long connection with the board. The Auckland centre decided to become an associate member of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association. The request from the Hospital Auxiliary that this association take a collecting stand on June 26 was acceded to. Over £35 had been collected by the Y.W.C.A. on Poppy Day. A letter of thanks from the R.S.A. was received. In view of the long delay in obtaining work experienced by women and girls, a further reduction was made of board rates for temporary accommodation in the administration building to £1 and 18/ per -week. The enrolment of one hundred
unemployed girls in classes for shorthand speed, dress renovating, care of children, diet and health, handicraft and physical culture was noted, and a report given of the lodging and meals given without charge to girls out of work. The intention to continue to co-operate with the National Council of Women by providing them with a room for the use of a telephone for the unemployment registry was reaffirmed. A resolution was passed that owing to the present financial stringency, the Auckland Association recommend to the National Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand the postponement till next year of the biennial convention, planned to be held in August. The chairman of committees presented reports showing satisfactory progress in the work, though the financial position of some departments was a matter of anxiety. Every section of the association is bending its energies towards preparation for the Cherry Fair being held this month in aid of Y.W.C.A. world fellowship funds.
