WOMAN'S DEATH.
— •- — BODY FOUND ON CUFF. VERDICT AT INQUEST. That Miss Mary Lilian Evett Maude, aged 53, died on or about August 23, 1930, but that there was no evidence to indicate the cause of death, was the verdict of the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the inquest yesterday afternoon. Miss Maude's body was found by two boys in thick scrub on the cliff above Long Bay on May 17.
Evidence showed that when Miss Maude left her home in Sherbourne Road, Mount Eden, on August 23, 1930, there was nothing unusual in her manner. She had been in poor health for two years before her disappearance and at times she had complained of palpitation of the heart and shortage of breath. She was in comfortable financial circumstances. She knew the locality where her body was found as she had stayed at a relative's summer residence in the Brown's Bay district.
J Dr. D. N. W. Murray and Dr. W. Gilmour said that when found the body had been exposed for some months. Postmortem examinations did not reveal any signs of violence. Witnesses were not able to form any opinion as to the cause of death.
"I think every possible inquiry has been made, but there is not sufficient evidence to show the cause of death," said the coroner.
