A TABLOID REVIEW.
REMARKS ON FORM. Novice Trot. One mile and five furlongs. Limit, 4.10. Blissland, limit: Has done nothing. Kopu Boy, limit: Form not good enough. Went one fair race about twelve months ago. Miss Braeside, limit: An improving mare, but liable to break up at the start. Mokotina, limit: No chance. Win Huon. limit: Consistently goes well. Must have a chance if anything goes wrong with Bessie Parrish. Moko Girl, limit: Has a bit of speed, but not too solid. Wild Robin, limit: No chance. Golden Huia, 12yds: Too erratic. Bingen Bell, 12yds: Shows pace, but is inclined to go to a break. Colonel Thorpe, 24yds: Not solid enough. All Special, 36yds: Won a race this time last year, but has not been prominent since. Joyride. 36yds: Can both gallop and trot,* but is no champion at either, or both. Tiwha, 36yds: Won by a "week" at Te Aroha, and a repetition of that run would see him in the money. Zanzibar. 60yds: Has not raced up to the promise he gave last season. Bessie Parrish, 60yds: This is the one to be on. Lord Haldane, 96yds: Too far back. Black Magic, 120 yds: Third seems to be the best he can do. It is in his favour that he trots solid, which is a big asset. Newstead Handicap. One mile and five furlongs. Limit, 3.57. Great Fame, limit: Hardly good enough to be regarded as a winner. Princess Betty, limit: Has improved recently, and if there is a surprise she may bring it off. Minties. limit: On form could not be given other than an outside chance. Black Ballin, limit: No form worth remembering. Ben Zolock, limit: Went a fair race in the mile saddle at Te Aroha, but that is all. White Haven, limit: Has done, nothing Betty Guy, limit: Dropped her backers badly at Te Aroha. Settled her prospects by getting away badly each time. Derby Vale, limit: Comes from Melbourne, and if his party fancy him may be the best of the lot. Would not want to be a good one to win this race. Donee, limit: Know nothing about him. Wee Machine, limit: So far has raced badly. Pegaway, limit: Only a two-year-old, cannot be expected to beat seasoned
horses. . Modern Light, 12yds: Was out in front for a time at the last meeting and would not want to improve much to have an outside chance, though she may not be a good one. Winter Show Cup. Two miles. Limit 4.40. Dan Direct, limit: Has failed too often to be a betting proposition. Impromptu, limit: Very consistent winner. Hard to pick one to beat him. Peter Pirate, 12yds: Invariably goes a wood race, but does not win out of his turn. Richore, 12yds: Ivo encouragement to support him. Nella Dillon, 24yds: Always races well, but this time it looks hard for her. St. George, 36yds: Is thrown into the race on time, but his record was done on a very fast track. Bound to go a good race. Brutus. 36yds: No chance. First Flight, 36yds: A brilliant filly, but erratic at the* barrier. Has a hard job to give Impromptu 36yds. Must be a fairly good one, otherwise his present owner would not have bought him. Royal Triumph, 12yds: Very speedy, but not the best of stayers. Has not been himself this season, but when right can go very fast. Wimmera King, 48yds: The veteran of the party. Coupled with Valloden. Etta Cole, 108 yds: Runs well, but does not win. Jock Bingen, 132 yds: The chances are the reccnt importations from Australia would beat him on level terms. Depends how everything is. Roi Grande, no handicap: Has won a race or two in Australia. May be a good horse. Has raced as a pacer. Eureka Handicap. One mile. Limit 2.19. Dad's Hope, limit: Always promising to win a race, but never does. Glenlake, limit: On time has second the best of it. Should be the favourite. Hohoro, limit: Not a real good horse. Goes best on a heavy track. Jock Bingen, limit: Very speedy, but the records show that trotters do not fare well when pitted against pacers. Richore, 12yds: Not a true racehorse. Will not always do his best. Direct Morning, 12yds: Went well enough last meeting to suggest he may down the favourite to-morrow. Sure to go a good race. Dealer, 24yds: Is also in the Cup. St. George, 24yds: A good pacer. Coupled with Glenlake. Little Guy, 24yds: Very speedy for a mile, and should be about at the end. Master Huia, 36vds: Had every chance last meeting, but failed. Prince Pedro, 36yds: Has plenty of pace and will go ten furlongs well. June Nordica, 48yds: A class above the others and has only to begin right to be in the money. WHAT FORM INDICATES. Providing the track conditions are favourable to-morrow there are horses competing at Claudelands who, on form, promise to see short prices. Backers have every reason to bet with confidence on more than one race; but if the track happens to be heavy there may be some surprising results, as many horses who go well on a firm track cannot act at all on a holding one. The horses who will make a strong appeal are:— Novice Trot.—Bessie Parrish. Newstead Handicap. —Jackie Thorpe. Ruakura Handicap.—Sir Voyage. Te Kowhai Handicap.—Carnui.
