A bequest which it ; ? believed will be of a value of £35.000 has been made to the Hastings Memorial Hospital, under the will of Miss Henrietta Lavinia Kelly, who was killed in the Masonic Hotel, Napier, by the earthquake or. Mi-s Kelly's body was not recovered from the Masor.L; Hotel ruin- until recently, and it was necessary, before probate cou'.d be granted, that proper legal application should bo paalq for leave to presume death. Miss Kelly had lived in this district for about 50 years. A conference was held at Napier to-day between Dr. M. H. Wat:.' DirectorGeneral of Heakl:. Dr. .Shor-?. of the Health Department, and members of the Hospital Board for the purpose of discussing the future policy for the provision of adequate hospital facilities in Hawke's Bay. Dr. Watt produced tentative plana for a self-contained hospital on a site yet to be decided upon. In order to decide the question whether the site should be at Hastings or Napier, it was agreed to call a special meeting. The provisions of the late Miss Kellv's bequest leave the board fairly wide discretion in the disposal of the money. though there is a definite provision that the bequest is for the benefit of the Hastings Hospital. The money named ir. the b-eque-t is invested in first rr.o;gage on freehold securities and i< y: ' '■ ing interest between 6 p«r cent and 6A per cent.
