abch eagle improved. STAE LAP PROMISING. Reid's success at Te Rapa with Arch Eagle was popularly received here, for the stable has not had a great deal of luck lately. It is freely admitted that the Archiestown gelding has greatly improved since coming here a few weeks a-to. The other stable contestant, Glenstar. ran a sterling race in the Highweight Handicap, only being_ beaten by the brilliant sprinter Havering. Arcn Eagle may race at the Te Kuiti meeting nest month. . C. Beere, now attached, to u. -a. Reid's stable, rode a good race on Arch Eagle at Te Fcapa, allowing the horse to run along without being unduly bustled. Beere is riding good track work, and now that the jumping season is near at hand he will be kept busy with schooling work. Including the Tauranga Cup, won by Mr. William Dunn's Lucky Alice, the J. H. "Wallace stable has won four cups this season, for which Antique has been responsible_for three. prestige 01 this training establishment is thus being well maintained. The team is not a large one, trat it certainly includes a good percentage of winners. The Catmint gelding Marjoram, who raced unsuccessfully at the Avondale and Waikato meetings, is none the worse for his efforts. Properly placed he has time to increase his winning score before being relegated to hurdle racing. . White Ringlet, until recently trained here by C. E- Wallace, has lately been running successfully at the West Coast meetings in the South Island. A. E'. Cox's Star Lap ran a good race in the Juvenile Handicap at the Waikato meeting, being in the lead rounding into the straight. The Landstar filly, who is growing into a nice stamp, is expected to make a good three-year-old. Gold Day was turned out in nice racing condition at Te Rapa by J. F. Eva, and his running was not in keeping with his sprinting ability. He did not leave fV; oarrier as quickly as usual, and as the paee was on all the way he may not have had time to become properlv balanced. He looks well after his recent racing, and it should not be longbefore he succeeds in making good again. Black Maire. who showed symptoms of lameness last week, and therefore could not keep his engagements at Te Rapa, is back again on the Yesterdav morn ins he bowled along freely over a couple of rounds on the plough gallop, and finished up soundly. Additions to the track workers are the risins two-Year-old colts by Musketoon —Archquil and Colossus respectively. The latter will race in the same ownership as Marjoram, while the Musketoon representative is owned by a Manawaru sportsman. Both are of the right type to make good. WELL-BRED COLT. The risins three-year-old son of Hunting Sonjj and Merry Roe has had the name of Merrv Hunter bestowed upon him. He is a brother to Merry Peel, and half-brother to Merry Mint. Merry Melodv. Merrv Damon, Sunny Roe and Kilroe"' Like" all of his- relatives, he was bred and is owned by Mr. F. Hall, ot Gisborne.
