OBSERVERS IN GARDEN.
« WAITING FOR A PAL." PROSECUTION DISMISSED. In the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday Albert A. Douglas and James Freebairn were charged with entering a market garden at Panmure on March 16, with intent to steal vegetables. The accused admitted being in the garden, but denied they had any intention to steal. A married pal had arranged for them to call for him, as he wished to meet a friend that night. As he would not tell them who he was going to meet, they went into the garden to watch. While there the owner came on the scene, and they decamped. "Naturally a married man can't get out at night when he pleases," added one of the accused. The magistrate said there was no definite evidence that the accused intended to steal anything. The information would be dismissed.
