WORKING CONDITIONS.
EFFECT ON PRODUCER. The "British Commercial News" states: "It is a well-known fact that to produce the finest work the interests of the workers must be studied with a view to making conditions as perfect as possible." One of the largest machine shops is then described as an example of good conditions for the employees. Each machine is painted a restful gr.een shade, obviating eye strain and its consequent fatigue. The floor is solid concrete, so that there is no vibration, and all the machines are well spaced out, thus eliminating the _ nerve strain of workers continually having to dodge out of each other's way. The "Commercial News" adds: "The quality of the work leaving the shops is eloquent of the success of these conditions." •
