PROTECTION OF WOMEN.
The monthly meeting of the executive of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children yesterday afternoon was well attended the Rev. W. Jellie presiding. The Bev. P. S. Smallfield who has returned from a trip to England, was welcomed. A long discussion took place on the question of the number of unemployed girls and women in the city. Appreciation of the steps taken by the National Council of Women was warmly expressed, together with willingness to support the council in any way possible. The reports of the secretary and the inspector showed that the work had been particularly heavy during the month, office interviews numbering 499 and visits to homes and institutions 145. Sixty-four new cases were handled; 27 dealt with troubles between husbands and wives, 10 with children, six were affiliation cases, and 21 were of a varying nature.
