SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A party was held recently at "The Isle," the residence of Mrs. R. Wallace, Waiuku, in honour of Miss Dorothy Hay on the eve of her approaching marriage. The hostess received in black silk. Miss Hay was frocked in black charmeuse and lace. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, cards and competitions. In the novelty dances the balloon dance was won by. Miss Cauldwell and Mr. McConriell, and the spot waltz bv Miss A. Hay and Mr. W. Pleydell. A'dainty supper was Served.

The Auckland Retail Shop Assistants' Charity Club, opened' their first dance of the Season with a carnival night at the Scots Hall last evening. The hall was charmingly decorated with mauve and green streamers which were suspended from the large centre chandelier. In the vestibule and under the balcony were canopies of streamers and light greenery. The energetic committee of last year Avas in charge, and a good' orchestra supplied the latest dance music. The attendance last evening promises another successful season. Miss Pilrcell and Miss Steinmetz arc the energetic secretaries, and thecommittee comprises Mesdame>s Thompson, Burgess, and the Misses Goodwin, Christie, Edgecumbe, McMillan and Cunningham. • » • «

Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Andrews, of Harne Bay, gave a kitchen evening at the Gaiety Hall on Saturday, in honour of Miss A. Hutton and Mr. D. Cameron, whose marriage takes place thus month. Over 100 guests attended and an enjoyable vocal programme added to the evening's enjoyment. Songs were given by : Miss Hinemoa Rosieur, Messrs. C. Mellor anxt L. Porter. The hostess received in a floral crepe fle chine. The guest of honour wore a Lido blue soUpie satin. Mrs. C. G. Andrews was in. oeige chenille trimmed with gold. 'Amongst the guests were:—Mesdames J. The annual meeting of the Tirau branch of the women's division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was J at£ tended by the following members: —Mes r dames Kuhtz (chairman), McLaren, Hancock, Bear, Morris. Carruth, C. T. Allen, -W. H. Allen, Newport, J. W. Amoore, P. Amoore, HetheringtOn, Jordan, Barton, Evans, K: R. Litchfield, Pcvreal, : Bishop and Miss Russell. An address to all annual meetings from the Dominion president, Mrs. Jackson, was read., Mrs. McLaren submitted the annual report, Avhich indicated that the past year was satisfactory-. The funds in hand toward the rest room were stated to be £154, while a further £3 had been forwarded to the' .community chest fund. The election of-officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:— President, Mrs. Morris; '■' vice-presidents, Mesdames Carruth, C. E. Allen and Kuhtz: secretary,. Mrs. Bishop; .social committee, Mesdames Bear, Newport, Hetherington, Hancock, Barton, Evans and Miss Shaw. The latter was ap-' pointed social secretary.
