SEAMEN'S UNION EMBARGO. SHIPOWNERS TO CONFER. ;'" . The action of waterside workers and seamen in holding up the working of certain foreign' ships when carrying intercolonial cargo is to be considered at a tteeting of the New Zealand Shipowners' Federation, to be held in Wellington tomorrow; Agents of vessels affected have asked the federation to combine in order *o prevent what they describe as "a definite violation of the laws of the country.'* It was reported to-day that the embargo has been extended to ships of the Canadian -National Steamships, a purely •Britisi' concern. Previously the Canadian snips traded between Halifax or Mon ; Weal and New Zealand ports. By a new tune-table arrangement the Canadian Conqueror, due at Auckland to-day, will proceed to Australian ports after discharging cargo at several New' Zealand Ports. She win return direct to Canada without again touching at New Zealand. The local agents of .the Canadian Aationai Steamships were informed last week that if the ships of this lino carried cargo between New Zealand and Australia they would receive the same treatment as that recently meted out to the foreign ships.. , .Representatives of the foreign shipPing conpanies will ask the Shipowners' •federation to-morrow to- request an assurance from the Government that the affairs of the country will be controlled b y constitutional means, and that trade will not be held up. at the dictation of the Seamen's Union.
