LEGAL CHARGES.
RELIEF OF ' s MORTGAGORS, "NO EXCESSIVE COSTS: - ' (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.j WELLINGTON, Monday. Legal costs for applications under the mortgagors' relief legislation are not expected by the Prime Minister to be excessive, according to a, statement he made in the House to : day during the Committee stages of the bill. A brief discussion on the point was initiated by Mr. D. McDougall (United, Matatna), who inquired of Mr. Forbes who would pay the costs of the application for relief. The member said he feared that a mortgagor in difficulties would be deterred by the expense from trying to secure protection from the Court. "The Supreme Court is not a safe place at any time so far as costs are concerned," he remarked. The Prime Minister replied that these applications would be dealt with in the tame way as any others, so. far as costs were concerned, and it would be a matter for the Court to decide whether both parties should pay their own costs, or if one or other should pay. "I am assured," he added, "that the costs in applications of this description will not be excessive, as it will not be an application in open Court, the matter being discussed in chambers, where costs are very much lower than in open Court proceedings."
