RACING AT AVONDALE.

THE AUTUMN MEETING. STAKES TO BRONZE EAGLE. H. GRAY RIDES FOUR WINNERS/ The Avondale Jockey Club for a long time past has not been very fortunate in regard?, to the Weather for its "meetings aid on. Saturday showers felt'act' intcr-Vl* all the af'crnoon and marred what otherwise; would have been an excellent day' 6 racing. There was a fairly good attendance considering the "conditions, but the totalizator returns showed a very large drop, the sum of £23,411 going through the machine, compared with £42,099 for the corres- . ponding day last season, a decrease of .£18,685. The racing was good throughout, and there were some excellent finishes. The All-aged Stakes only attracted three runners—Bronze Eagle, Supremacy and Lady Quex—but nevertheless the finish was most exciting. The trio were practically together over the last bit and Bronze Eagle forged ahead in the last few yards to gain the verdict by a short neck from Supremacy. The finish in the Railway Handicap was ..also very interesting, Havering just get--ting home by half a head from Gold Money, who beat Leitrim by half' a • length. H. Gray was in his best form, Tiding four winners—Peter Jackson, Bronze Eagle, Havering and Cynthia; N. —during the afternoon, which brings his tally up to 85 for the season. Only Three Parade. Scratchings in the All-aged Stakes reduced' the field to three. Bronze Eagle was made a hot favourite, carrying nearly two-thirds of the money on the machine. Karapoti was one of .those withdrawn, having. bruised'a heel. This withdrawal robbed the race of a . good deal of interest, but, still, a good finish resulted. Supremacy drew the trails and Bronze Eagle was on the outride. Lady Quex was the quickest to -get going, but Supremacy soon joined : and by the time the top was reached Supremacy was just in front of Lady Quex, with Bronze Eagle immediately : behind. -Lady Quex and Bronze Eagle ra.ii up to Supremacy before the straignt ..was reached, and they were just clear /rpt Lady Quex as they straightened up ""for home. A great'race resulted, Lady tQuex came through on the inside and ■i the trio were about on terms half-way V_down. Bronze Eagle finished the best, score by a short neck from wno was half a length, in y:ifront of Lady Quex.
