TO BE RETIRED.
LIMERICK AND NIGHTMARCH. It is announced that the racing careers of Limerick and Nighttnarch are at an c"nd and that they have been definitely retired. Subsequent to the recent meeting at Riccarton, Limerick suffered a recurrence of the back trouble that came against him in Sydney in the spring of 1929, and he is to be sent to his owner's property at Racecourse Hill to enjoy his davs of idleness. He retires with the substantial stake winnings of £38,719 to his record, a total beaten only by Phar Up, Amounis and Gloaming. Nightmarch has had a shorter career than" Limerick, but with earnings amounting to £29,178, of which £28,856 lias been won for his present owner (Mr. A. Louisson), he has been a lrghly profitable performer. He shares with Sasanof the honour of being the only dual Melbourne Cup and New Zealand Cup winner. By an arrangement made some time back, by which Nightmarch was to enter Mr. Kain's Gladstone Park Stud at Orari when he finished racing, the horse will now be taken over by Mr. Kain and will be placed at the service of breeders next season.
