Interest in the contest for the mayoralty of Rotorua has quickened during the last few days. This morning about a | dozen repre l sentative business men waited upon the present Mayor (Mr. T. The council had not accomplished all the tasks started, and he felt that it was up to him to make the best showing he could. They had first to consider economy, but economy meant wise spending, and that was what he stood for. He would face the election with much greater confidence as the result of the deputatiom

At the council meeting on Thursday the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said he had agreed to again stand for the mayoralty at the request of the council, and now he found them all anxious to avoid the duties they had pressed him to take on. After a few pleasantries had been exchanged, the Mayor requested the councillors to reconsider their decisions. The situation is totally different from that experienced two years ago. Then there was a great deal of activity, and 17 candidates were nominated for the eight seats.
