"By what authority has the Minister of Education stopped the erection of various jobs in his Department, such as the Weir Hostel, Wellington, technical or secondary school in Papanui, and school buildings in Auckland?" asked Mr. H. T. Armstrong (Christchurch East), in a question tabled in the House yesterday.
The member added that plans for these buildings had been prepared by the Department, and the Ministers own'advisers had stated tlftit the buildings would ,be perfectly safe. He wished to know why the Minister was "having these buildings redesigned in wood or concrete, especially as the Government had set up an expert body • to draft building regulations which _ would operate right through the Dominion, coveiing the erection of all big buildings, both as to design and materials, with a view to resisting earthquake shocks.
