ROTORUA POLICE FORCE.
TRANSFER OP SERGT. HOGAN. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. The popularity of Sergeant J. J. Hogan, officer in charge of the Rotorua police, was amply demonstrated on Wednesday evening, when he, was entertained prior to his departure for Wellington South, to which station he has been transferred. The gathering was held in the Citizens' Club, and was attended by many of the leading citizens of the town. ' The chair was occupied by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson), who was supported by Mr/ George Uruqhart, deputy-Mayor, and Mr. R. P. Spedding. chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. ' Mr. Urquhart referred to the assistance which Sergt. Hogan had always given the solicitors of Rotorua in the conduct of Court cases, and expressed regret at his departure. The Mayor then presented the sergeant with a handsome leather suitcase, and Mrs. Hogan with a travelling rug, as reminders of the goodwill of the citize'ns of the town. - . Sergeant Hogan warmly thanked the citizens and members of the Bar. He expressed the hope that he and Mrs. Hogan would some day be able to return to the district and renew old acquaintances.
