She will organise new institutes, going as far as Russell. • • • • Mr. Frank Thompson, general manager of the Christchurch Tramways, and Mrs. Thompson joined the Maunganui yesterday for Sydney, and expect to be away from the Dominion till next January.

Mrs. J. M. Jones is the first woman to stand for the Hamilton Borough Council, and will be a candidate at the forthcoming elections. She is well known in the district, and has a long record of public work, and has been a member of the Hamilton East school committee for five years. She is president of the South Auckland district of the W.C.T.U., and also of the local branch, in which she lias held office for 32 years. In 1928 she was appointed a J.P., and shortly afterwards magistrate's associate in the Children's Court.
