GOOD USE FOR SPOIL.
CREATION OF RESERVE. LAND ON MARINE PARADE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. A scheme for the creation of ao attractive reserve, involving the use,of a' great quantity of spoil which fell from the Bluff Hill during the earthquake, is among the improvements which are contemplated for the Marine Parade. "I intend to use the spoil from the Bluff Hill slip to fill in an area near the municipal baths, bounded by the retaining wall, which the Thirty Thousand Club built," said Commissioner J. S. Barton, in explaining the proposal. "A start will be made with one acrcj which will be top-dressed through the assistance of citizens with?, out cost to the community. In fact, I think, I have the money in hand now for the work of filling in and levelling* the area. The superintendent of reserves has assured me that such an area could - produce a good sward of grass," Mr. Barton continued. "It would provide a fine site, and a good position for any borough amenities which might be placed tbeE£ later. Later on it might be decided to build a theatre there, or, if such a proposal happened to be considered unwise, a tea kiosk "or some other building might be placed there."
