NEW ZEALAND "ALSO RAN."
CANADIAN BUTTER IMPORTS.
(To the Editor.) - Recent figures published here show that the importation of butter from New Zealand is considerably less than it was for the corresponding months of last year. Yet in Canada we are eating jnore butter than ever, thanks to the taste cultivated for this article by the splendid New Zealand butter we have been getting. Due very largely to the splendid", work for their country done in Canada by the Hon. Parker Maloney, Minister of Trade • ' and Commerce, and Mr. McGregor, Trade Com- • missioner for Australia, ana the apparent inactivity of Mr. Collins, the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, Australia seems now to be getting New Zealand's share of this business. Although first in the field, New Zealand's Trade Commissioner seems to be content to wait until Australia has been fixed up with all she wants. What have New Zealand exporters to say about this? Australia sent V men here who were regular "go-getters" .and "humdingers" at their business. New Zealand sent us a civil servant who has not the ' authority to make arrangements which would ensure the retention of the trade." It may not be too late yet to overtake Australia if the New Zealand Government can lay its. hands on a good long-distance runner who can stay the course in this competition. WM. A.
