"WE MUST LOOK AHEAD."

BUSINESS MAN'S OPTIMISM.

TYRE TRADE EXPANSION.

POSSIBLE NEW INDUSTRY FOR

AUCKLAND.

The possibility of the establishment of a tyre manufacturing industry in Auckland within the next twelve months was mentioned to-day by Mr. Harry .Taylor, managing director of the Advanx Tyre Repair Company, which has a branch in the city.

Mr. Taylor is a through passenger on the Aorangi, which left this afternoon for Suva, Honolulu, and Vancouver. In the ship's' hold is a large consignment of machinery, some for the Suva branch of the firm, but the majority for Canada, where the firm's operations are being advanced. Mr. Taylor's tour will include Southern America, as well as Canada and the United States.

"Times are far from prosperous in the motor business just now," Mr. Taylor said, "but I have sufficient faith in the recuperative power of Australia to believe that the end of the coming winter will see the end of most of her difficulties. New Zealand has not been so badly hit, but she has felt the slump quite badly enough. However, lam convinced that the coming of next spring will eee us all in a happier position. It is a significant fact that the concern with which I am associated, as well as many others, has sufficient faith in the future of the country to plan as far ahead as 1932. Capital is not being taken out of the country—that alone is significant."

Discussing the possibility of establishing a tyre manufacturing industry in New Zealand, Mr. Taylor pointed out that the population was not sufficient either here or in Australia to merit the manufacture of motor cars, but tyres were always in demand, and there was no reason whatever why they should not be made in this country. The employment of local labour was a big factor in its favour. "The idea underlying my present tour is not merely to deal with existing business," he added, "but to obtain ideas for future expansion. We must always look ahead."
